Book Review: The Selection!

So today I am doing a review on a book I recently read called The Selection by Kiera Cass. This is the first book in the Selection Trilogy. This book and the second one (The Elite) are out now but the third one (The One) will be released on May 6, 2014! I DONT KNOW IF I CANT WAIT ONE MORE DAY!!! (THANK YOU SYDNEY FOR LETTING ME BORROW THIS BOOK! Check her out here!)
(Before I could publish this I seriously couldn't put The Elite down...So its done too now...)  I am the type of girl who likes to read a trilogy or a series at a time with no other books in between. Before I even started these books I want ed to make sure all three were released. And for some reason I thought they were so I started the Selection. When I went to order "The One" though you can imagine how much pain I was in when I realized I had over a month to go before the third was released! (Granted it could have been worse and I could have had to wait a year or two!)
So ONTO THE REVIEW! This book was obviously a dystopian because that's all I can read lately.
This book doesn't give us a time frame of when this goes on except for its AFTER the 4th World war. It goes into details in the book on how everything happened that caused the 4th world war and such. But I wont go too far into that. Unlike some books though, it was something I could see happening in the future. So this society is built on castes. There are 8 castes and you work according to your caste. As you grow up you are trained in the field that your caste does. And that's the job you do your whole life. There are a couple of other things that are important for you to know about this society. There is royal family who rule the country of Illea (the name of this country!) There is a curfew. It is unadvised to marry outside of your caste ESPECIALLY for a girl. Sex before marriage, and cheating are punishable by death.

The girl who is our narrator and main character's name is America Singer. And she is a singer/instrumentalist. Which places her in the 5 caste. Turns out America is in love with a guy named Aspen...who is a caste below her (a six. Which does housework and are maids and such). Aspen and America do their best to see each other all the time. But then...America is chosen for The Selection. The Selection you say? YES THE SELECTION! It is a competition where 35 girls from different castes and different places around the country are chosen to go to the palace. The palace you say? YES THE PALACE! But why? Good question! Prince Maxon is becoming of age and needs to start looking for a wife. So 35 girls are whisked away to compete for the heart of a Prince they have never met. They also have no idea how long they will be there for. They could be there from anywhere from 3 months to 5 years while the Prince is still deciding. (Sound like anything familiar? I promise he's way better than Juan Pablo though ;) But for real, its way better than the Bachelor could EVER be. So if you aren't a fan of the show, don't rule out this book!) The whole book is pretty much the journey America goes through while she is there, and THE FIGHT FOR THE CROWN/PRINCE MAXON!

I loved this book so much. Its one of the best books I have read in a LONG time. First off, I loved the names in this book. (There was a girl in the selection named Elizabeth! BOOYAH!) America, Aspen, Marlee, Tuesday, Kriss, Celeste, Emmica, Gavril I mean I could go on for days but you will just have to read the book to experience the rest of the names :) Secondly let me just state the fact that if this book has teams: I am TEAM MAXON ALL THE WAY. I do like Aspen's character Sam I Am. And I hope I will like him eventually but as of now I love Maxon. (And pray to the fictional Gods that he isn't killed off in the end...which seems to happen to every character I love recently...) Also, I think America's character is so amazingly developed I don't know what I am doing without her. She seriously became my bff while I was reading. (Although I want to ring her neck several times...)
This book gets 10 out of 10 stars because it made me happy. And I need the next one to come out. Seriously.
